December's Season of Celebrations & Sharing Contest-Cookies for the Troops

December's Season of Celebrations & Sharing Contest-Cookies for the Troops

A couple years ago I wanted to send cookies to some of my clients who were serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.  I baked dozens then found out that we needed cookies for a bake sale at school and a client's holiday party and a family event and......within 2 days, all the cookies I had already baked had been re-purposed.

The next day I was at the grocery store to re-supply the pantry and saw the familiar bags of Otterbein Cookies in their recognizable red bags.  The cookies are DELICIOUS and honestly far tastier than mine!   Their chocolate chips are crisp and buttery.  The sugar cookies are super thin, cut in festive shapes, with just the perfect crunch.  Gingerbread and Lemon are two more family favorites!  My mouth is watering thinking about them!

Adam Otterbein opened a small bakery near Fort McHenry, Maryland  in 1881 where his sugar cookies became the favorite. In 1996, the family business, now run by Adam's great-grandchildren and other family members, started to concentrate on wholesale distribution.   Many companies try to expand into mass production and fail.  They tend to lose control, lose where they began and the quality get's lost in translation.  Not Otterbein's!  Obviously I wasn't around in 1881 to taste those original sugar cookies, but I can only imagine that Adam Otterbein is looking down from heaven and smiling at his legacy.

I decided to call Otterbein's (their bakery is only about 2 miles from my home in Catonsville) to see if they could send cookies to my friends serving overseas.  The owner, a veteran himself, not only agreed to send them, he offered them at wholesale pricing and packed and shipped them for me!   Hmmmm, better tasting, way less mess and they take over the job of shipping?  What is not to love....SOLD!!

I just sent out my latest shipment of cookies, 3 cases of sugar cookies and 3 cases of chocolate chip, 72 bags of deliciousness to one of my special clients in Kuwait!   Otterbein's breaks those 6 cases down into 8 cases for shipping to ensure that they are packed to arrive intact.

As you may imagine, my clients and friends are really great about sharing their treats and especially during the holiday's when a taste of home mean's so much.  I have been told these cookies are as addictive as crack and it's hard to keep the other troops hands out of the bags!  I love sharing the love with the troops, especially at Christmas!  I love supporting local, family business, and I LOVE Otterbein's Cookies.

If your local store or specialty shop doesn't sell Otterbein's cookies, you are not out of luck.  The cookies can be ordered online in festive holiday tins, bags,  snack size bags and boxes.

If you choose to share the love with the troops, just give Otterbein's a call at 410-265-8700.  It will be a care package your soldier, sailor, airman or marine will never forget!  A small treat for a HUGE sacrifice!

These cookies are great for any time!  Be careful, after the first taste you may never bake your own again!
