An Evening Spent With Dear Friends

Tonight we had dinner at our home with dear friends.

They used to be our next door neighbors.   When they lived next door, we were constantly together.  We have been through a lot together.  My daughter is 6 months younger than their oldest.  My husband and I are the Godparents to their youngest.  My daughter calls them Aunt and Uncle, and their kids do the same to us.  We are invited to most family parties.  In short, fate made us neighbors, but life made us family!

A few years ago they decided to move about 25 minutes away (Of course, I was their loan officer!).  I was sad, but they had to make the best decision for their family.  The relationship changed, they are in a different county, so the kids schedules are different.  For a while we talked on the phone almost every day.  Things changed and there is more time between calls and visits, but the friendship remains strong.

They always let us know about houses for sale by them. The best decision for our family is to stay where we are, for now.

Tonight we had the whole family over for dinner.  The kids played, the adults talked.  There were lots of laughs.  It was like old times.  Great food, great wine.

It used to be that they could walk across the yard and they would be home.  Tonight, as they piled in the car I grew nostalgic for that time.

I sure miss having them next door, but we are so blessed to have these folks in our lives.  I am so grateful that we happened to buy houses next to each other.  One day, we may live closer, but for now I have to settle for visits.  I am already looking forward to our next get together.

May you be blessed with neighbors who become true lifelong friends!

Tonight we had dinner at our home with dear friends.
