Many of us hear about tragedies on the news and though we feel bad for the victims, we are not called to action. We may text to donate to the Red Cross or put a couple dollars in the bucket when other's are collecting, but that is where our connection ends.
For a ten year old Maryland girl named Carly, donating a couple bucks wasn't enough! Carly heard a news anchor talking about the kids in Moore, Oklahoma having bad dream after the tornado and she HAD to do something to help! With her American Indian heritage, Carly always had a dream catcher in her room, so she thought that might help the kids.
We were blessed to attend her 2nd dreamcatcher event. The first was at her school, the entire 4th grade made dream catchers for Oklahoma!
There was quite a crowd, all working together to make Carly's dream come true to help kids in Moore, Oklahoma dream happy. My 8 year old daughter Sydney decided that it might be a good topic to blog about. Here's her take on Carly's project!
DREAM CATCHERSTO THE RESCUE
Hi, my name is Sydney. Let me tell you a story about how a 10 year old girl changed the lives of the little kids in Oklahoma. Her name is Carly.
You might have heard this recently on the news but she heard that the kids in Oklahoma were having bad dreams, and she wanted to do something about that, and she wanted to give something back to them because of when they lost their houses and all of their things in the tornado. So she thought that she could make dream catchers for them but she couldn’t do it all by herself. So she got some help from friends and family and told them her idea. She and her friends and Mom Amy and her Dad Steve put this fundraiser together to make dream catchers for the kids in Oklahoma.
People made 90 and her 4th grade class also made 64 so in all it was 154 dream catchers, it was really amazing how many there were just because of a little girl, Carly! And that is my story all about Carly and her dream catchers!
Way to go Carly, we are proud to know you! I know her parents are even more proud Carly...kudos to you too!
