Baltimore Women's Classic 5K

On Sunday morning, bright and early I will be heading into downtown Baltimore for a 5K run for the Baltimore Women's Classic.  This is the 2nd time I have done this 5K.  I did this one last year, one week after my first triathlon.   After all the training for the Tri, once this race was done so was I.  I stopped exercising, stopped watching my diet.

The great news is that I am training for the Iron Girl Triathlon this year and the wonderful walk/run training program for the Baltimore Women's Classic fell perfectly in line with my tri training.  I have realized that it is important for me to have a goal so I have something to work toward.  The BWC will only be a mid training race, not the culmination of the work I put in last year.   It's a perfect race to run.

There will be over 2800 women of all shapes, sizes, and descriptions.  The course runs through Baltimore and the entrance fee and money raised goes to help women with gynecological cancers.  Many will run, many will walk, I will be somewhere in between.

My daughter Sydney (5) will be running in the Kids Fun Run after I am finished my race.  Her race is only 150 yards, the perfect distance and the perfect race for her to get a taste of what Mom has been training so hard for.

We were "training" the other night.  After a VERY short distance Sydney complained about her feet hurting.  I had to laugh when she said:

"I don't know why they call it a Fun Run, Running is NOT fun!"

Running isn't always fun for me, but the feeling of all those women running togethe for such a great cause is a wonderful thing.  Being able to share this day with my daughter, my sister, and many friends (some new and some I  have known for years) makes this even more special to me.

I will write tomorrow to let you know how I did and of course Papa Razzi will be there so there will be plenty of pictures to post!

Now I just have to figure out what I will train for after the Iron Girl!! I love how I feel when I work out.  I won't lose it this time!

Bridget,, good luck to both of you today.  I used to run for fun.  I ran cross country and loved the views and the closeness to nature but now running is not fun,  I'm with Sydney on this one!!  But, good luck to both of you - it is a great cause.

Ellie, Thanks!  Race Antics...lol!

Margaret, The only example I am trying to set is for Sydney, anyone else is a bonus!  Thanks for the support.

June, I played Volleyball and Softball, not a huge amount of running. It is actually starting to get more fun the more I am doing it.   BWC is an amazing group of women!
