My Baby Started First Grade...

My Baby Started First Grade...

I have been blessed to be able to take my daughter to work with me since she was born, so this is the first time that she has been away from me full time.  It's strange.  I have worked my schedule around her schedule most of the last six years.  I worked from home as my schedule permitted, brought her to the office as needed, and I did have the help of a wonderful part time day care provider for days that I had meetings.  My husband has been amazing, stepping up when I have evening meetings and client calls.  I am probably going through a tougher time than she is, but I am making it work!!

Lamb of God School Baltimore MD

Sydney started first grade at Lamb of God in Halethorpe, MD.  It's a wonderful school that has kindergarten through 8th grade.  There are just over 150 kids in the entire school, with only one class per grade.  It is a small school with big heart.  The teachers and administrators truly love the kids and love what they do. Some of the teachers are teaching the children of children they taught!  A wonderful legacy I think.  They encourage the children to reach their highest potential and provide them with the tools to do that.  There is a peace here that I have not ever felt before in a school setting.

Their Mission:  Our goal is to equip children to respond generously and effectively to God’s call to service and leadership in the Church, family, and society.

The Kindergarten  here is one of the last of the 1/2 day programs.  They do offer enrichment taught by the kindergarten teacher, and aftercare to help to accomodate working families.

Lamb of God School is having an Open House on October 10th and 11th from 9:30-2 PM.

Prospective families welcome to come in an look around when school is in session (a much better way to get the true feel of a school).  It's also open to the parents of current students during that time.

I know that Sydney is going to do great in first grade.  She thrived at Christ Lutheran Nursery School.  She loved every minute of kindergarten at LOG.  She is already reading everything she can get her hands on, and loves learning anything put in front of her.  After Back to School Night where we were given a taste of the things she will be learning this year, I wonder if I need to start studying myself so I can help her with her homework!

One class per grade is sounding better and better with the noise of 706 students at lunch. Big is not always better.

Bridget - You have started a wonderful journey.  Each year I took pictures of our two girls on the first day of school.  It's cute to look back and see how they have grown.  This year when school started there were no little girls waiting on the doorstep for Mom to photograph.  Our oldest daughter is now 20 and in the Navy.  Our youngest, only 17 graduated from High School a year early and started college this year.

It was a sad day for me for sure.  While I know my girls will continue to entertain me with their adventures, I wonder where the time has gone.

Enjoy it!!!

Ellie, It is a great school.  You and Drew would love it there.  You can join our carpool!!

Cyndi, Sounds like you have done a fabulous job with your girls.  I am so grateful for military moms, please thank your daughter for her service!  I am enjoying EVERY Minute, it is already going much too fast!!

My... she sure takes a lot of stuff to school with her. Would there be a hidden teddy bear in that back pack? LOL. Such a sweet picture and yes they do grow too fast. It always seemed to me that they were still babies at that age.

Bridget:  I can tell you from experience (2 boys of my own, both men and fathers now) ... you DO have to start studying again.  KIds these days learn everything so much faster than we did .. and in much more depth.  Start cracking those books, Mom!!  And enjoy every minute with your daughter along the way ... they're gone way too quickly.

I hear from people with similar stories on Facebook and shutter to think it will be me.  My two "3" pounders turned "3" today.  The picture is adorable- treasure every moment.

Bridget, Have you ever thought of Sydney doing her own blog? I remember when Joeann Fossland started with her grand daughter who was around 6 or 7 at a time.

Congratulations on your beautiful first grader!
