ActiveRain Connections-Across The Country, Across Oceans, Across A Lifetime!

ActiveRain Connections-Across The Country, Across Oceans, Across A Lifetime!

I have been on ActiveRain a while now and I am so proud of my colleagues here that do so much to help others.  The Pay It Forward Group has blog after blog about big and little things our community is doing to make the world a better place.  There are many here who run great programs that support our troops, raise money for cures for disease, collect school supplies and feed the hungry, many more who do things quietly on their own, and still others who provide monetary support to many programs.

Margaret Woda is collecting items for Operation Christmas, goodies and gifts for our troops serving overseas.  Margaret Rome sponsored her niece's efforts to raise money Johns Hopkins Children's Center through Kilometers for Kids...Glenn Freezman. collected Tea for Japan, Jack Beach raises money in memory of his grand-daughter by running marathons. Dr. Stacey Ann Baugh turned the tragedy of losing her best friend, Angie Houtz, in the 9/11 attacks into a scholarship program for Maryland college students doing good things. TLW (who commented on my very first post in 2007!) is educating folks about skin cancer using her very personal fight. Mike Cooper is raising money for breast cancer research and Susan G Komen.

I love how ActiveRainers not only do good on their own, they support others doing good.  When I competed in the Iron Girl Triathlon with the Team in Training raising money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, I had great support from my ActiveRain friends!

I met Audrey June Forshey a few years back here on ActiveRain.  We met in person and connected.  She is a lovely woman and a caring and knowledgable Realtor.  She has a loan officer that she has been working with for years so we haven't done business together (yet), but I really like her as a person.  We "friended" on facebook and have kept in touch.  Audrey's husband Mike Forshey is incredibly supportive of Audrey's career and her passion for this organization. He is also a super nice guy with a lovely family!

Helping African Orphans Mothers Fighting For Others MFFO

Audrey sent me an invitation to her fundraiser for Mothers Fighting For Others (MFFO).  MFFO is an organization that serves to empower and educate orphan girls in Africa at Saint Monica's Orphanage.   We had talked about her involvement in this wonderful organization that was started by Raquel Roberge Turner.  I have been getting to know Rocky (and her 6 children, and her 34 special orphans) through her facebook posts and through her website.   I wasn't able to attend last year's event, but this year I knew I couldn't miss it. Since Papa Razzi was heading to Skyline Drive to take pictures, Sydney got to be my date for the evening's festivities.

I shared the MFFO website and girls pictures with Sydney before we left for the fundraiser.  She grabbed her piggybank donated her own money for the girls.  That kid makes me proud every day!

How do teach my children about charity

Audrey is a Gaithersburg realtor.   The event, which has grown every year, was supported by many of her co-workers, friends and her family (really lovely and generous folks!).  I met some of the the other folks working for MFFO including Rocky, her husband Jeff Turner, Desiree Daniels and Al Sodaro, and Jen Wall.  They are the kindest, most welcoming folks you can know!  They opened their hearts, their wallets and their homes.  MFFO Mothers Fighting for Others  Great New Jersey Real Estate Agents

It wasn't until I was talking to Al at the end of the evening that I found out that many of them had met here on ActiveRain many years ago.

Al is on Desiree's team with REMAX Tri County and heads up their marketing efforts.  They are engaged.  Desiree and Al connected with Jeff on Active Rain.  Then Desiree organized a fundraiser to help MFFO back in 2007 after learning about what Jeff's wife was doing for the girls at Saint Monica's.  They have since visted Saint Monica's orphanage and are heading back soon.  I believe that Audrey met Rocky through Jeff and ActiveRain as well.  The funny thing is that I never made the connection between Rocky's husband Jeff and the Jeff Turner I used to read here on AR.  Pretty cool stuff.  These folks would have never met had it not been for ActiveRain.  Rocky and Jeff live in California, Audrey is in Maryland and Al and Desiree live in New Jersey.  Connections made across the country, helping girls across an ocean!

These folks don't blog on AR very often anymore, I am hoping they will get back involved on Active Rain.  This community is one of givers, of kindness, and we can all take a page from their book for following your passion and giving your heart.   ActiveRain is so much more than a blogging site.  It is a place for connections that create friendships for a lifetime.  It is a place for connections that change lives.   Jeff, Rocky, Audrey, Desiree, Al, Jen and so many others now thanks to them are changing lives, in our communities and in communities across the world.

I am so grateful for ActiveRain for allowing me the honor of connecting with all of you, and look forward to many more connections!  Together  and separately we are changing lives!

Rebekah, You have been so helpful to so many here in the Rain in the short time you have been here.  I am glad we connected as well!

Ellie,  AR has been wonderful for both business and personal connections.  It allows us to see who folks really are to determine who we want to connect with....way better than a resume or a market report!  Apparently your wish was granted,  featured....pretty cool.

Bridget, the connections we make here in the Rain are very close to connecting with lost friends or family. Nothing else in Social media even comes close.

Bridget-darn I made last year's event and missed this years.  I'm in awe of all of the work that Racquel and Audrey June have put into MFFO.    AR has opened up a world of opportunities not just to sell real estate but to find new ways to support our communities too.

Mike, Here, Here!

Rebekah, Hope you connect with some of these great folks!...and thank you!

Ed, I think of that often. The diversity of people, backgrounds, life experiences and willingness to reach out and share is unmatched!  So glad you stopped by!

Cindy, it only takes one person to step up and lift others up to greatness!  I am sorry we didn't meet, but soon, I hope!

Thanks for stopping by to check in Kristine!

Richie, I have never heard it put that way....i like it.

Brenda, There are so many folks doing great things here or because of connections they made here.  Members and their families are lifted up in prayer, we come together in tragedy and triumph.  It's a great forum!

Evelyn, I know that folks outside of AR are doing good things, it's just really special here.

Scott, nice to meet you!  It only takes one!  Glad you are finding it as special as I am.

I'm approaching my one year anniversary on AR and I have to say it was one of the more important discoveries in my real estate career thus far.

Dear Bridget,

With our lives being mostly too busy and too dynamic (most people move several times in their lifetimes, leaving behind friends and connections in the old place), it is great to have an online community to stay in touch.
