Resources in Baltimore County for Children-Parent, Teacher, Home School, Child Care

Last week Sydney's teacher asked me to go to The Southwest Resource Center to laminate some posters that she and the kids had created.  I had never heard about this great place.  It's just off 695, Wilkens Aavenue exit, near Maiden Choice Lane. I had no idea what a great place I was about to find!

It's a crafter/teacher/parent/homeschool/child care NIRVANA!

According to Christine Peter, the parent services rep at the Maiden Choice location "The Southwest Resource Center for Families and Schools at Maiden Choice School is committed to supporting student achievement in homes, schools, and communities. The center – located in the annex building at Maiden Choice - offers support and encouragement to parents in developing home environments that support learning and student success. There are five centers throughout Baltimore County; they are part of the Baltimore County Public Schools Parent Support Services Program.

Visitors to the center have access to a variety of equipment, supplies, and materials to produce educational items with the support of experienced staff members. Consumable materials are charged at replacement cost." You can bring your own paper if you choose.

The following is a partial list of equipment and materials are available at the centers:

  • laminator
  • copier
  • letter
  • shape cutters (die cuts-letters, shapes, numbers, seasonal, holiday, animals, etc.)
  • computers
  • poster maker
  • button maker
  • clip art books
  • resource books

4901 Shelbourne Road Baltimore, MD 21227

Center hours

Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday 8:30-4:30

Wednesday 8:30–5; and Friday 8:30-4

I am excited to go back and explore.  So many ideas, so little time!! They have instructions to create your own learning games.  Love that artwork? Laminate it and make a placemat or a wall-hanging.  Want to help your child learn their letters and you are craft-challenged?  Create your own die-cuts and hang them all around the house!

Please be sure to call to verify they are open - 410-887-3646

I am with you. I had no idea that this place existed. Is it for General public?
