Bridget, what a fun idea!  If I still had my travel benefits (airline employee on a leave of absence right now) I would commit with you.  Maybe I can find one that is close to me.  It would be fun to take a 5K challenge this year :)

Bridget, sounds like a fun race and a worthy cause to support. Hope you have a great time on your race!

Bridget, what fun.  I remember doing a 5K walk when I was in 5th grade to raise money for a charity, I don't remember what charity it was now but I remember doing the walk, in fact my whole class did the walk.  A great way to get active and support a great cause too.

How fun!  I was just thinking this morning that I should find a 5K to train for.   Making the commitment would make getting back into the habit of running a lot easier.

Best wishes!

I could maybe walk it, but running would not be happening. Maybe in a few years when I get these old knees replaced.

Christina, Just sign up for one in your area. has a great list of races to choose from.  Check at your local running stores for training or check out couch to 5K downloads.  One foot in front of the can do it!!

Erna,  thanks so much!  I am someone who needs a goal.  I will sponsor and run in support of my daughter's school.

Margaret, I'd love to have you join us for a walk, jog or run!

June, we have to show our children that exercise is a good thing, raising money to support a cause, any cause also teaches a great lesson....I remember doing a walk through downtown when Memorial Stadium was still around...not sure what that charity was either, just remember lots of blisters...the right socks and shoes make a difference!  Glad it was a good memory for you!

Cheryl, the cool thing is that one of the former teachers has an charity race event planning company, so we are strides ahead of folks trying to do this on our own! It's a big undertaking! Thanks for your support!

Sondra, I definitely need a goal.  I am not a huge fan of running, nor am I fast (walk/run??), but I will get to spend time training with my 7 year old (she will out run me I am sure!) and that time will be precious!

Ellie, we'd love to have you!  Come on out with your family, friends, co-workers and clients for a walk around the lake!  We'd love to see a team from the awesome Keller Williams of Greater Howard County!!

Roger,  Thanks so much for the feature!  I definitely need  to motivation of a goal, maybe this will inspire others to take the first step!  There are a lot of great, low-cost (or free) training programs to get folks started.  Now, if I can only get myself out the door for the first session!!
