Getting Healthy In The Rain...An Interesting Month for Mortgage Mama

Getting Healthy In The Rain...An Interesting Month for Mortgage Mama.

It has been an interesting month of moving toward health for this Mortgage Mama.

I have weaned off a medicine that increased my blood pressure and made me gain weight in the three months I was on it.  My blood pressure is back to normal and although I have not weighed in, I am confident that there has been progress!

Other than that, here are the updates on my commitments:

1.  I have signed up to sponsor and run a 5k in April to support my daughter's school...my first step.

Signed up and moving forward (slowly and a little painfully, my knees are NOT happy with this update!  It will get better!  I am actually looking forward to this race!

5k in Howard County Maryland April 2013

2.  I commit to exercising a minimum of 3-5 times per week (including weights, cardio and xbox fitness, general fun).  I also plan to do a couch to 5K program.   I have been doing much better with this, but still not consistent enough.  Illness, lack of energy and general busyness has made this tougher than I was hoping.  I did purchase the Zumba DVD's and Syd and I have been having a blast dancing like crazy in the basement!  We also went for a walk...which when with an amazingly encouraging 7 year old, turned partially into a run.  I was really proud of myself and the mother-daughter time can't be beat!   The couch to 5K training starts for me on Sunday, March 3rd.

3.  I commit to getting more sleep.  Being in bed by 10 PM After tonight :)  I have been doing much better with going to bed earlier BUT....Well, this one is a toughie.  Apparently, I stop breathing 39 times per hour (0-4 is normal) and my o2 levels drop to around 60% (under 90% is not good!)....so I have been diagnosed with Sleep Apnea.  I just had my sleep study with a CPAP (a mask attached to a machine that helps you to stop snoring and cut back on the times you stop breathing) and was told that my sleep was MUCH better.  Since I slept there only from about 1 AM to 5:30 AM, I am still not refreshed, but I now know that I can get there!  My husband was diagnosed several years ago.  We will make a pretty pair with our matching CPAPs and face masks....I expect the machine in soon, this should make the sleep I do get much better.

4.  I commit to drink more water consistently.  I have been doing a great job with this.  Not only have I increased my water intake, I have dramatically decreased my drinking of diet pepsi, caramel lattes, wine and beer  (really anything other than water!).  This has been surprisingly easy.  I am not even really trying, it is coming very naturally!  Thanks in great part to #5!

5.  I commit to continuing the journey to emotional freedom and helping others on the path.  I completed Brittany Watkin's 16 week Skinny Genes Mastermind class in EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) and other natural modality's.  This was an amazing program for me, not only did I make the time for me (something I am not very good at), I followed through on the complete program FOR ME!  Skinny Genes is an amazing program that helps to kick cravings and release the emotional reasons for holding onto excess weight.  I made amazing progress personnally.  I am now officially certified as a Skinny Genes coach.  I was even matched up (thank you universe!) with another student who happens to sell Real Estate in Kansas!  She is amazing and has become a wonderful friend.  I am trying to get her on AR, her mom is already here!

6.  I commit to modeling healthy eating and cooking more, eating out less.  My 7 year old is actually taking the lead on this one!  She gave up desserts/snacks, drinks other than water and watching TV for lent.  Although I suggested that she choose one, she decided that she could do them all.  She has taken a couple little breaks on Valentine's day, her school's Dr. Seuss Birthday party and a friend's birthday.  She is doing great.   In trying to  honor her  commitment, I have been actively adding more healthy foods into her lunches and our family dinners.  We are also having a lot of fun cooking together and experimenting.

7.  I will look into a triathlon and/or 10K event to determine if the time commitment might be an option for late 2013.  Not quite there yet, but I am excited about the LOGJAM 5K in April.  I would love if folks would join us!   Just click on the link to sign up!

Wow, you are taking on a lot of improvements at once!  That sleep apnea thing just kills your energy -- if you can get that taken care of, it will help with the rest.   Onward!

Keep up the great work. Glad to hear you were able to get off the medication. I have enough of a time working out on my eliptical without doing a 5k!! I could do the 5k on the eliptical but not running!! My knees won't last that long hitting the ground for that distance.

GREAT goals. You have several listed here that I need to do!! I would never make it to bed by 10. I just know it. MAYBE by 10:45, after the news, and letting the dogs out! HA! Congratulations on becoming a Skinny Genes coach! That is AWESOME!!!

Ki,  thanks so much!  I am working on it!  One step at a time!

Margaret, you are the best, thanks as always for your support!

Dianne,  I am actually looking forward to the CPAP machine.  I have heard only good things about the results!  I'd rather wear a mud mask, but this should be better!!

Gerard, look online, there are all kinds of triathlons, maybe you can even create one at your gym!  Elliptical, swimming, bike!   Stinks getting old!

Joni,  Thanks so much!  Obviously the 10 PM thing is tough for me too, especially since I am writing this at 11:28!  I am seeing wonderful results and I know I am ready to release this excess weight!!  I loved the Skinny Genes program!
